Cybercrime and digital extortion gang ShinyHunters have claimed that they have managed to infiltrate the FBI system and obtain personnel information on thousands of FBI officials, apparently in response to an FBI alert issued in May 2026 regarding the activities of the hacking gang. To back up their claim, screenshots of a defaced FBI recruitment site were released along with samples of the obtained data. The FBI recruitment websites were found to be out of service soon after the attack, while some of the leaked information was verified by journalists as legitimate, although there has been no evidence to suggest its source within the FBI.
